SANS AI Cybersecurity Summit (Apr 20–27) is the only DC-area event that goes deep on both offensive and defensive AI for cyber. The summit itself runs two days; hands-on training courses extend through April 27. The standout course, SEC535 (Offensive AI), sold out so fast SANS added a second session. The Arlington location is deliberate — NSA, Cyber Command, and major defense contractors are minutes away, and the evening receptions draw personnel who are otherwise nearly impossible to access. Virtual summit access is free if travel isn't feasible, but you'll miss the relational infrastructure that drives procurement decisions in this ecosystem. Insider tip: If you can only take one course, SEC535 is the one generating the most buzz.

AI Week DC (Apr 20–24) overlaps with the SANS summit, making the third week of April the densest AI stretch of the year in the DC metro. The week covers federal AI adoption, generative AI, zero-trust, post-quantum cryptography, and responsible AI — all framed around White House priorities. Full speaker lists weren't public at press time, so check the event site before finalizing your schedule. Insider tip: One trip covers both AI Week DC and the SANS summit — plan accordingly.

AI for Defense Transformation Summit (Aug 18–19) is the most operationally focused defense AI event on the calendar. Sessions explicitly address Project Maven, Replicator 2, Project Linchpin, and Advana — the DoD programs that matter most to anyone working in defense AI. Speaker rosters are expected in May–June, consistent with the security clearance review timelines that govern defense conference logistics. Active-duty military and government personnel get discounted rates; contractors pay full price. Insider tip: Treat program discussions as deliberate DoD communications strategy — useful signal, but not the full picture.

Register early for free events. SCSP AI+Expo and AWS Summit DC are both free but high-demand. Secure your spot now. For the GovCIO AI Summit in September, government executives at VP level or above attend free — flag this for your agency colleagues who might otherwise skip it on budget grounds.

Stack your travel around dense weeks. Three clusters are worth planning around: April 20–24 (AI Week DC + SANS summit in Arlington — one trip covers both); May 7 through May 28 (SCSP AI+Expo followed three weeks later by US AI Congress); and June 17 through July 1 (USA AI Summit into AWS Summit DC).

Watch for speaker announcements. The US AI Congress and AI for Defense Transformation Summit both have thin public agendas as of now. Monitor their sites through May and June — that's when speaker confirmations typically drop for late-summer defense events.

Prioritize in-person for relationship-driven goals. DC conference value is disproportionately relational.
